Pelvic Health PT

Physical therapy for pelvic health is specialized treatment that helps optimize the function of the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles provide support for the pelvic organs, help control bladder and bowel function, and assist with sexual function. Dr. Shepherd will provide you with a thorough initial examination, including a detailed past and current medical history, and will perform a pelvic external and internal exam as indicated and with the patient’s consent. Dr. Shepherd will help improve your pelvic floor dysfunction with education on proper bladder and bowel management, instruction on how to strengthen or relax the pelvic floor muscles, behavior modification as needed, and manual therapy interventions and modalities as needed. Dr. Shepherd also utilizes Biofeedback training with real-time feedback to help improve pelvic floor muscle awareness, coordination, relaxation, and strength. This specialized treatment can be beneficial for individuals experiencing pelvic pain, urinary or bowel dysfunction, pelvic floor muscle weakness, or difficulty relaxing the pelvic floor, allowing your body to Reconnect • Restore • Retrain™. You will be treated with dignity and respect, and Dr. Shepherd will only perform parts of the exam you are comfortable with.
